Go laments slow justice system

Senator Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go on Friday said that while he is happy that the verdict on the decade-old Maguindanao massacre is finally out, he is frustrated with the country’s snail-paced judicial system.

In a statement during his visit to fire victims in Malate, Manila, the senator said that he is happy that justice was served to the victims of the Maguindanao massacre as the Quezon City Regional Trial Court on Thursday found Andal Ampatuan Jr.—along with several of his relatives and primary suspects—guilty of multiple accounts of murder.

They were sentenced to reclusion perpetua without parole.

Go stressed that the slow justice system leaves Filipinos no resort but to seek help from no less than President Rodrigo Duterte.

The President’s former top aide also expressed his sympathy for the fire victims in Leveriza St., saying he wants to bring smiles on their faces this coming Christmas while fulfilling his promise during the campaign period to Filipinos of visiting communities in need of government attention.

Comprising of more or less 100 families who have lost their homes in the incident, Go distributed relief and financial assistance and told students affected in the fire incident that he will provide them a new set of uniform and school supplies to enable them to resume their studies immediately.

“My priority has always been the Filipinos and that wherever I am needed, I will immediately respond to the distress calls of the people,” said Go.

The victims also received assistance from representatives of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), National Housing Authority (NHA), Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), and the Presidential Commission for the Urban Poor (PCUP).
