Gov’t intensifies SDG efforts

The government is ramping up efforts to achieve the targets defined under the so-called Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) with the creation of a sub-committee for such, senior economic officials said on Friday.

This was learned from the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) on Friday whose top officials said the SDG remain a key part of the larger financial inclusion and infrastructure buildup programs.

“The inter-agency Development Budget Coordination Committee approved the creation of the Sub-Committee on (SDG) during a meeting held on 11 December 2019,” the NEDA said.

“As part of the country’s commitment to support the SDG, the sub-committee will monitor progress on the SDG in the Philippines, review SDG-related programs and policies, and submit recommendations to the cabinet level of the DBCC,” it added.

Socioeconomic Planning Secretary Ernesto Pernia said the move reflects the government’s seriousness in achieving the SDG which requires a “strong policy integration and alignment of resource allocation.”

“The budgetary process presents a good mechanism to support integration of the SDG. Strong policy integration and alignment of resource allocation with the country priorities on the SDG will help create an enabling environment for sustainable development,” Pernia said.

“We are committed to the SDG because it is the key to ensure that current and future generations of Filipinos achieve their dreams and ambition,” he added.
