Go lauds Team Philippines for a job well done

Senator Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go congratulated Team Philippines for their exemplary performance in the recently concluded 30th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games as the country’s delegation was awarded as the over-all champion of the Games after harvesting 387 medals — 149 gold, 117 silver and 121 bronze medals, during the closing ceremony at New Clark City in Capas, Tarlac.

The senator, who is also the chair of the Committee on Sports in the Senate, said in his statement that he is grateful for the efforts of all the athletes who participated in the biennial sports meet.

Go also commended the parents and families of the athletes and coaches who continuously supported the delegation throughout the Games as he recognized the support of the Filipino nation for the successful hosting.

The Philippine delegation broke its own record of gold medal count in the entire SEA Games history as Team Philippines already claimed more than 137 gold medals as compared to its 1991 record of 91 gold medals.

Team Philippines has also surpassed its high-time record of 290 medals in 2005. At the end of this year’s edition of the Games, the country’s sports delegation garnered a total of 387 medals. This record also puts the country on the top pedestal as the overall champion of the 30th SEA Games.

“Our being the over-all champion is convincing proof that as long as we work as one, we will win as one!” Go said.

The senator also praised the efforts of the government in supporting the training and assistance of the country’s delegation. He said that the government has invested so much in programs, financial support and facilities to steer the athletes towards success.
