COMELEC eyes higher voter registration target

The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) is eyeing to increase its voters’ registration target for two polls in 2022

“No target has been released yet, but we already did surpass the last target that we set. So, hopefully we can increase the target now,” COMELEC spokesman James Jimenez said Sunday referring to the registration of voters for the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) which was moved from 2020.

Jimenez added that the resumption of voters’ registration for the National and Local Elections (NLE) and BSKE is expected to begin in January 2020.

“It will be held in January, we still have a couple more weeks to prepare for that,” said Jimenez.

More than four million voters were already recorded during the last registration period held from 1 August to 30 September.

Data from the COMELEC’s Election and Barangay Affairs Department showed that a total of 4,097,003 registration applications nationwide were received during the period.
