Blu Girls complete sweep; Blu Boys settle for silver

CAPAS, TARLAC—As expected, the Philippine Blu Girls swept the softball competition in the 2019 Southeast Asian Games as they asserted their mastery over their Indonesian foes, 8-0, to cap their gold-medal feat at The Villages inside the New Clark City here.

It was the softbelles’ 10th straight SEA Games gold, dating back to the 2001 Malaysia edition.

“It feels great that we won the gold here and it feels even better that we won the gold for the first time here in the Philippines,” said Blu Girls captain Cheska Altomonte. “It’s the first time we actually played as a team here so it’s great. It felt really good to be playing in front of family and friends.”

The Blu Boys, however, bowed to Singapore, 1-6 to settle for the baseball silver medal.
