Mactan bests 2 top int’l airports

The Mactan Cebu International Airport (MCIA) — Terminal 2(T-2) was adjudged as the best completed buildings: Transport Category during the World Architectural Festival.

It bested other airport nominees such as Singapore’s Jewel Changi and Turkey’s Istanbul airport.

In its website, a judge of the event noted that the MCIA-T2 was “simple and elegant” airport that used “locally sourced materials.”

Another judge added that MCIA-T2 was integrated into the area through development of a local hub and a landscape plan with its design allowing future extensions.

“It is clearly popular with the local community and this established a memorable travel experience,” the judge narrated.

Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia, who sits as board of director of MCIA was elated over the award as more developments and expansion are to be made at MCIA.

MCIA-T2 has been designed as island resort type international airport.

The festival has over 148 judges representing 68 countries.

MCIA-T2 was designed by multi-awarded firm Integrated Design Associates-Hongkong by Architect Winston Shu in coordination with Filipino known designers like Cebuano Kenneth Cobonpue.
