Bronze ends Phl 14-year wait for beach volley medal

SUBIC BAY FREEPORT—The Philippines ended its 14-year medal drought in beach volleyball with a gallant bronze in the 30th Southeast Asian Games here on Friday.

Sisi Rondina and Bernadeth Pons first came through with a 21-17, 21-13 win over Singapore’s Serene Ng and Shan Ee Lau, before the pair of Dzi Gervacio and Dij Rodriguez scored a 21-18, 21-16 victory over Eliza Chong and Gladys Lee.

Team Philippines then watched the Indonesian pair of Dhita Juliana and Putu Utami sweep Vietnam to secure the podium finish.

Undefeated Thailand bagged the gold while Indonesia took the silver medal.
