President Rodrigo Duterte has committed to provide assistance for the construction of 2,000 housing units for coastal residents of Albay that were displaced by Typhoon Tisoy.

The President made the commitment in response to the appeal of local government officials Thursday during the situation briefing on the effects of Tisoy in the Bicol region at the Legazpi City Convention Center in Albay.

In the same meeting, Duterte agreed to the suggestion of Albay Governor Al Francis Bichara to clear fallen trees along the highway to make the road passable.

Meanwhile, Senator Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go said he will help those affected by the typhoon and will visit the hardest hit areas in Bicol in the weekend to provide relief assistance and address their concerns.

Typhoon Tisoy, internationally known as Kammuri, left an estimated P667 million worth of damages in the province of Sorsogon and around P29.5 million in the province of Albay. The figures are expected to rise as reports come in.

After the meeting in Legazpi, Duterte and Go proceeded to Initao, Misamis Oriental after the Legazpi meeting to honor a police officer who was killed in action after a grenade exploded in a school, and another police personnel who was wounded in the same incident.
