Fourth-generation Korando arrives

Korean SUV specialist, SsangYong pushes forward into the future with arrival of its fourth-generation Korando.

With its first debut in 1983, originally designed as a utility vehicle for the US Armed Forces then, this newest generation Korando now takes in a fresh adventure, taking a few design cues from the 2015 Tivoli.

The 2020 edition uses a new exterior muscular silhouette and character lines together with spacious premium interiors to highlight the vehicle’s commitment to adventure, as underscored by the power it delivers with its new diesel engine.

“The Korando was developed with two goals in mind,” shared Japeth Castillo, Ssangyong Berjaya Motor Philippines president.

“First, we wanted an SUV with improved fuel efficiency. Second, we wanted to give our customers even better power delivery than before. The fourth-generation Korando is the result of years of research, development and refinement,” he added.

“We wanted to deliver a vehicle that had a premium fit and finish, but at a more affordable price compared to the competition.”

At the onset, its distinctive new grille, reminiscent of bird wings in flight, and its streamlined highlight treatments give the vehicle a re-energized face. Lower, wider, and with a longer wheelbase compared to previous editions, it also has a more youthful appearance, while still maintaining the durability and stability that’s made it one of the brand’s most trusted family vehicles.

One of its biggest improvements is found under the hood. The Korean car manufacturer’s premiere mid-market SUV features its new e-XDi160 diesel engine, a durable, high-efficiency compact engine designed with both power delivery and fuel economy in mind. The engine is capable of producing a maximum output of 134 hp, with peak torque of 324 N-m, combining high power generation with zippy acceleration. This makes driving experience both robust and straight-up fun.

And while its engine is designed with peak performance in mind, maintenance is also virtually worry-free. The Korando comes with free three-year service (parts, oil, and labor) and five-year or 100,000 km warranty, which ever comes first.

With SsangYong’s advanced noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH) reduction technologies, the Korando is quieter than it’s ever been, despite the added power of its engine. Hence, this even becomes one of the brand’s biggest product innovations.
