Briton, wife rescued from ASG

Following relentless military operations that led to the killing of six Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) terrorists Saturday and Sunday, the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) today announced the successful rescue of a British national and his Filipino wife in Parang, Sulu.

AFP Western Mindanao Command chief Lt. Gen. Cirilito Sobejana said abducted couple Allan and Wilma Hyrons had been rescued unharmed by the 11th Special Forces Battalion. No ransom was paid to the abductors, Sobejana said.

Abducted last month, the resort owners are presently undergoing medical check-ups in a military facility.

On Sunday, five members of the Abu Sayyaf terror group were killed Sunday in Sitio Huton Mahablo in Barangay Silangkan in Indanan town, Sulu.

The day before, one Abu bandit was also killed in Sitio Itum in Barangay Kabbun Takas in Patikul, Sulu.

Five soldiers from the 32nd Infantry Battalion were slightly wounded in the Saturday clash while two special forces troops were also wounded slightly in the Sunday encounter.

Among the five killed were two Abu Sayyaf sub-commanders, WestMinCom chief Sobejana said.
