DoLE cites OFW global competitiveness

The Duterte administration assured its commitment to promoting the safety and welfare of the OFW especially now that the creation of the Department of Overseas Filipino Workers is being mulled.

The Department of Labor and Employment (DoLE) on Friday hailed the overseas Filipino workers’ (OFW) significant contribution in promoting the image of the Filipinos as competent, dignified and responsible workers around the globe.

In a statement made during the 30th Founding Anniversary of the Bagong Bayani Foundation Inc. (BBFI), Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello cited the organization for its significant role in promoting Filipino workers abroad.

“We regard your foundation as our valuable partner in giving due recognition to the OFW not only for beefing up the economy through their dollar remittances. More so, through their significant efforts in promoting the image of the Filipino as dignified, competent and responsible workers around the globe,” Bello said.

The foundation spearheads the conduct of the Bagong Bayani Awards that recognize and pay tribute to the OFW for their significant efforts in fostering goodwill worldwide and for their outstanding contribution to the socio-economic development of the country.

The DoLE chief assured the Duterte administration’s commitment to promoting the safety and welfare of the OFW especially now that the creation of the Department of Overseas Filipino Workers is being mulled.

“Our relentless campaign in taking care of the OFW, our bagong bayani, as well as that of their families will not cease,” said Bello.

“These are the orders from our President. That’s how much he loves our modern-day heroes,” he added.
