Go vows to push for health workers wage hike

Knowing the plight of health workers in the country, Senator Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go assured the public that he remains a close ally of the health sector in pushing for the welfare of health workers and in improving access to quality health services in the country.

In his speech in front of over 1,400 attendees representing the Philippine Hospital Association (PHA) member hospitals during the 70th Annual National Convention of the organization, the senator stressed that he had successfully defended the 2020 budget of the Department of Health (DoH) for the benefit of the health workers.

As an advocate for the betterment of health services in the country, Go — who is also the chair of the Senate Committee on Health – stressed that he will make sure that the DoH will receive the right amount of budget to provide quality health services to Filipinos, health workers, and institutions affiliated with the department, such as the PHA.

The senator also reminded the crowd that the taxpayers’ money should be given back to the people through better quality services, noting that careful allocation of the budget must be well-observed with the implementation of the Universal Health Care Law.

Go also revealed that he has urged the Senate and the DoH to find funds to implement the decision of the Supreme Court to increase the salary of government nurses.

As the Malasakit Center Act of 2019 nears the approval by President Rodrigo Duterte after both the Senate and the House of Representatives passed it on their final readings, Go thanked the 51 government hospitals with fully functioning Malasakit Centers already serving the Filipino public.
