Sytin killer draws life imprisonment

Judge Richard Paradeza of Branch 72 of the Olongapo City Regional Trial Court on Wednesday issued a guilty verdict on Edgardo Luib for the murder of auction tycoon Dominic Sytin.

Luib drew a life in prison sentence for the murder and also six to 12 years for the frustrated murder of Sytin’s bodyguard Efren Espartero.

Senior Deputy State Prosecutor Richard Anthony Fadullon said the conviction was “a recognition by the court that apart from the voluntary plea of guilt, there were more than sufficient basis and evidence to establish the guilt of the accused beyond reasonable doubt.”

Luib was fingered by Espartero and other witnesses as the gunman in the shooting at the Moonbay Marina area on 28 November last year.

Luib admitted to the killing of the businessman and the shooting of his bodyguard and pointed at Sytin’s younger brother Dennis and one Ryan Rementilla as the masterminds. The convict said he was promised a million pesos for the assassination but was only given P50,000.
