PNP enhances digital capabilities

Officers attend a workshop that will enhance the national police's digital capabilities.

In line with its efforts to keep up with the latest technology, the Philippine National Police (PNP) launched its Workshop on Crafting of Implementation Strategy for Digital Transformation Roadmap to introduce innovations for a more efficient police force.

PNP officer-in-charge PLt. Gen. Archie Gamboa led the opening rites held at the First Pacific Leadership Academy in Antipolo City on Monday, stressing that the workshop will help the organization to remain on track with renewed vigor in instituting reforms.

The event is part of the PNP’s Secured, Mobile, Artificial Intelligence-Driven, Real Time, Techology (SMART) Policing program, a combination of intelligent implementation of innovations in policing technology while at the same time incorporating it with existing policies.

“It will boost the PNP’s digital transformation as it introduces changes and innovations in information technology,” spokesman P/BGen. Bernard Banac said.

With its SMART Policing initiative, the PNP can further address the country’s problems on narcotics, criminality, terrorism, cyber crime, and corruption as all police commands and sub-units nationwide will be digitally connected en route to having an expansive evidence-based, data-driven law enforcement database, tactics and strategies.

Greenlighted by President Rodrigo Duterte in December 2018, the six-year plan with a P33-billion budget will be used to fully modernize the PNP in compliance with the order to keep the streets safe.

The SMART Policing program will be spearheaded by the Directorate for Information Communications and Technology Management.
