House ratifies Bicam report on polls postponement

The House of Representatives — voting unanimously — ratified the bicameral conference committee report on the bill postponing the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections during its plenary deliberations on Monday.

This means that the postponement of the elections will now be elavated to Malacañang for President Rodrigo Duterte’s signature.

The House approved the House Bill 4933 which contains provisions on the proposed postponement on third and final reading last week in a vote of 194-6 and once enacted into law, it will postpone the elections from May 2020 to December 2022.

The more than P5 billion earmarked for the elections under the 2020 budget was earlier realigned by the House of Representatives to other agencies, including the Department of Agriculture and the Department of Health.
