Baguio suicides reported

A Baguio resident died while another survived in two separate alleged suicide incidents discovered in the evening of 10 November 2019.

Initial reports from the Baguio City Police Office (BCPO) revealed that at around 6 p.m., Juanita Velasco Anicas, 56 years old of Quezon Hill Proper Barangay of the city was found hanging with a nylon cord looped around her neck connected to the garment’s rod of her cabinet inside her room by his brother.

It also noted that before the discovery, the victim’s daughter Cecille knocked on her door to call her for dinner but did not respond, which prompted her to call the help of her uncle who forcibly opened the door where they discovered the alleged suicide victim.

According to the victim’s daughter, days before the incident, Anicas was observed absent – minded and often heard complaining of financial problems. Personnel of the Baguio Emergency and Medical Services (EMS) tried to revive the victim but were unsuccessful. She was declared dead officially by an attending physician stating that Anica died of asphyxia by hanging.

Meanwhile, at around 7 p.m. of the same date, an alleged suicide attempt was reported wherein, Edden Lou Teofilo, a 25 years old female tried to poison herself at Purok 2, Barangay Kias, Baguio City.

Between 7 to 7:15 a.m., her brother called the help of EMS after he got a message from her sister that she cannot breathe after drinking a 50 ml of muriatic acid.

Emergency responders immediately rushed to the house of Teofilo and were able to rush her to the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center (BGHMC).
