Peralta: No bias in BBM protest case

Chief Justice Diosdado Peralta on Friday strongly denied that he favors the petition filed by former Sen. Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. and assured the public that the case will be based on evidence.

This was the statement of Peralta when he was asked about the case of Marcos against Vice President Leni Robredo which is being handled by the Supreme Court Presidential Electoral Tribunal.

The chief justice said he will vote on former Sen. Marcos’ election protest objectively.

“It’s not correct to say that I’m favoring this case,” said Peralta adding his decision allowing the burial of former strongman Ferdinand Marcos Sr. at the Libingan ng mga Bayani is based also on the law since there is no law prohibiting the burial of the former president.

It was his decision that dismissed the legal hurdles to the burial of Marcos at the Libingan ng mga Bayani, although he said this is the only decision in which he favored the clan.

“It is not correct that I have been favoring the Marcoses. This is the only decision that I favored the Marcoses. It is only in the burial,” he said.
