Bank cashier steals from vault

Maybe she thought she could pay off the money she stole in piecemeal. But it grew so big, she could no longer repay what she initially thought was money she borrowed.

A female bank employee learned her lesson the hard way after she was arrested for stealing P338,000 from a China Bank branch in Marikina City on Monday evening.

Marikina Police Chief Col. Restituto Arcanghel identified the suspect as Ariane May Tercena, 39, a cashier at the China Bank Fairlane branch in Barangay Concepcion Uno.

Initial investigation disclosed that the bank’s auditor, Zailo Sioco, discovered the pilferage after conducting an audit last 24 October. He found out that the total discrepancies of cash in the vault amounted to P338,000.

Hector Fernando Yumul, the bank’s branch manager, conducted an investigation before the suspect confessed, claiming that she used the money to fund her needs.

The suspect was turned over by the bank’s security investigator to the Marikina City Police Station.
