Slain terrorists Egyptians

Two of the three suspected terrorists killed in a shootout with troops in Indanan, Sulu on Tuesday were Egyptians, according to the Armed Forces’ Western Mindanao Command (Westmincom).

The foreigners were identified as Abduramil and his son Abdurahman who both worked for Abu Sayyaf leader Hatib Sawadjaan in Sulu, the Westmincom report on the encounter said.

The Egyptians were with a Filipino named James when they were confronted by troops from the Philippine Army’s 41st Infantry Division and 1102nd Infantry Brigade at a checkpoint in Sitio Itawon, Brgy. Kan Islam around 5 p.m.

The suspects were believed to be on their way to carry out a suicide bombing mission in Jolo when they fired at the soldiers who returned fire killing them.

Recovered from the slain suspects were a .45 caliber pistol with ammunition, a hand grenade, and two vests with explosives and triggering devices.

The province of Sulu has been a hotbed of suicide bombings since the start of the year.

An Indonesian couple carried out the twin bombings at a Catholic church in Jolo town that left 23 dead last January.

Last 28 June, the military prevented suspected suicide bombers from entering an Army installation also in Indanan. The terrorists blew themselves up when soldiers tried to arrest them.

On 8 September, another suicide bombing by a “caucasian-looking” woman happened also in Indanan. No one else was killed in the incident.
