Six PHL athletes to carry flag

A star-studded team of six elite athletes will carry the flag and lead Filipino athletes in the opening ceremonies of the 30th Southeast Asian Games on 30 November at the Philippine Arena in Bulacan.

For the first time in SEA Games history, six athletes composed of weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz, pole vault specialist EJ Obiena, boxers Nesthy Petecio and Eumir Felix Marcial, skateboarder Margielyn Didal and judoka Kiyomi Watanabe would serve as flag-bearers in the opening parade.

Carlos Yulo, who clinched the gold medal in the 49th FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Cup, would light up the cauldron.

Although the move is already a done deal, it has yet to be formalized pending the confirmation of the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) executive council.

The POC, headed by president Abraham Tolentino, will meet on Friday at the Conrad Hotel in Pasay City.
