Rated X intersex movie raises protest

The director of “Metamorphosis” has slammed the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTCRB) for rating the intersex movie X but will submit a re-edited version for review.

“Ang mga eksenang ito ay hindi lamang purong kalibugan. Ito ay pagpapakita ng kanilang pagkatao, ng kanilang sexual desires, ng kanilang pagkalito at pagkabigo– mga bagay na pinagdadaanan nating LAHAT, intersex man o hindi,” read a Facebook post of Jose Tiglao.

The MTRCB deemed the movie “not suitable for public exhibition” for being “too sexual”.

However, Tiglao justified the daring scenes saying they were crucial in the movie to humanize and break the stigma against intersex people.

“Ang mga eksenang ito ay paghahayag na sila din ay mga TAO. Na walang mali sa kanila. Na sila ay normal. They are beautiful as they are,” Tiglao said.

The director said the production team will re-edit the film to lessen the daring scene ang will pass another copy for review.

Metamorphosis is the first Filipino film which features intersex people, or people born with both male and female genitalia.
