‘Ice maiden’ Deneuve suffers stroke

CATHERINE Deneuve broke boundaries with her portrayal of a housewife who turned to prostitution to ease her boredom.

The family of French actress Catherine Deneuve confirmed Wednesday that she was rushed to a hospital after suffering “a mild stroke.”

Her agent said there had been no damage to her motor functions but that her doctors said she would need time off to rest.

Now 76, she was best known for her sexy role in the raunchy Belle de Jour released in 1967. She had been tagged the “Ice Maiden” because of her aloof manner and beauty.

In Belle de Jour, Deneuve portrayed a housewife who resorted to selling her body to while away her afternoons.

She also starred in 1983’s The Hunger as a vampire opposite the late singer-actor David Bowie.
