Peaceful place for pets

Every life comes to an end. That is true for humans as it is for pets.

We had to come to terms with the finiteness of it all last Thursday when our 14-year-old chihuahua crossed over the rainbow bridge.

He had been diagnosed with an enlarged heart due to heartworms in 2016, plus his vet admitted he was a “ticking time bomb” back in July. But the suddenness of it all still shocked us when it finally did happen.

We rushed him that night to the nearest pet emergency hospital we knew of — only to discover that the online search results were outdated and the hospital in question had already closed down. Needless to say, it was a very sad trip home.

When it was time to decide how to send Max off, a friend of a friend recommended Pet Valley Park and Crematory.

Pet Valley was founded by the owner, Dr. Manny Reyes, by accident: he was fulfilling his friend’s request to keep her beloved pet close after it passed away when he realized there was a market for pet crematory services. They cater mostly to canines and felines but have also had services for a pig, a turtle and goldfish.

The facility offers burial — either individual or common — and cremation services. Both come with a free memorial service. Their packages have upgrades, as well as various optional souvenirs like plaques with the pet’s photo and necklaces with the pet’s ashes.

You can drop off the remains of your pet at their office, or you can opt to have it picked up from your home. Afterwards, you can also opt to have the urn and any other memorabilia delivered to you.

The individual rates depend on the weight of your pet and the type of service and package you choose.

In my opinion, the best part about the entire package was the lovely and solemn memorial service they offer for each and every pet. You can view and say your final farewell to your fur baby right before its cremation or burial in a chapel setup similar to what one might experience in a typical funeral.

The entire ceremony lasts about 15 minutes to half an hour. (Clients may customize the ceremony to suit their needs.)

It was comforting to see one’s pet sent off in a very touching manner. It helps ease the pain of those who are coping with the loss of their pet. I highly suggest attending the memorial service if you can.

The place is not on the main road but is searchable on Waze. The last 300 meters or so is a dirt road. There doesn’t seem to be any visible street lamps on the said dirt road.

Come early but expect to wait, especially on a weekend. When we arrived at 9:30 a.m. on a Saturday, we noted three other mourning fur parents who came in ahead of us. Three additional clients arrived by the time we left at 11:20 a.m., including an entire family.

Pet Valley Park and Crematory is at Barangay Pooc II in Silang, Cavite. The nearest landmark is the famous wedding destination San Antonio de Padua Parish.
