Maguindanao river overflows, floods 3 towns

MAKILALA, North Cotabato — The Ala River in the border of Maguindanao and Sultan Kudarat provinces overflowed Friday due to heavy rains flooding the towns of Datu Paglas, Sultan sa Barongis, and Datu Salibo.

The water reached as high as waist-deep but started to recede when rains ceased at dawn.

Maguindanao Governor Bai Mariam Sangki-Mangudadatu on Friday night directed the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) to attend to the needs of flood victims in the said towns.

Mangudadatu was distributing relief goods to quake victims here amid light to moderate downpour when she received the report of the floods.

“We continue our assessment and monitoring. We will extend help to flood victims as directed by Governor Mangudadatu,” said Tim Ambolodto, Maguindanao PDRRMO action officer.
