Andanar: Fake BP news maligns Thai king

Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) Secretary Martin Andanar on Friday denied that the king of Thailand told President Rodrigo Duterte to behave during the ASEAN summit as alleged in a frontpage article of the 31 October 2019 issue of the Bangkok Post (BP).

In a video posted on Facebook Friday, Andanar called a Facebook group’s post of the copy of the BP’s frontpage with the headline story titled “King orders PH Duterte behave during ASEAN Summit” as fake news.

The PCOO head showed a copy of the actual issue of the newspaper where the headline is actually titled “Suvit calls for Thailand to embrace 5G fast, or lag behind rivals” and the story is clearly about wireless technology.

Andanar said the post is malicious for both Duterte and the Thai king.

“Alam nyo, ‘pag gumawa kayo ng fake news na ganyan, na ginagamit nyo yung pangalan ng hari ay, dito sa Bangkok, Thailand, sa Thailand mismo pwede kayong makulong ng 15 taon dahil sa kanilang Le Majeste law, na kapag binastos mo yung isang revered na hari ay deretso kayo sa loob ng kulungan. Kaya sana huwag ho tayong gumawa ng mga ganong klaseng fake news,” he warned.

Andanar added, “Nakakasira ho yan ng bilateral relations ng dalawang bansa.”
