4.4 magnitude quake recorded off Sarangani coast

It was the second strong earthquake detected Saturday, according to Phivolcs. #Mindanaoquake

A magnitude 4.4 earthquake struck off Sarangani’s coast around 1:03 p.m. Saturday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported.

The epicenter of the quake was in the Celebes Sea, 153 kilometers southwest of Sarangani, and at a depth of 313 kilometers which cannot cause significant damage on land.

The Phivolcs advisory indicates that no aftershock and damage are expected.

It was the second strong earthquake detected Saturday. At 2:38 a.m., a magnitude 4.5 earthquake was recorded by Phivolcs with the epicenter at 125 kilometers east-southeast of Tulunan, North Cotabato.

Tulunan was devastated by a 6.6 magnitude earthquake on 29 October and a 6.5 magnitude tremor on 31 October.
