19 dead, 22 hurt after truck falls in a ravine in Apayao

A total of 19 people were killed and 22 were injured when the engine of the truck they are on board suddenly causing the break not to work and fell into a deep ravine Sitio Gassud, Brgy Karikitan, Conner, Apayao.

In a report from the Conner Municipal Police Station (MPS), at around 7:00 PM of 31 October 2019, the white Isuzu Elf truck with 44 passengers and load of sacks of palay and corn seeds came from Rizal, Cagayan Province and was heading to Conner. The said vehicle was going up a road at Barangay Karikitan, Conner when the engine shut-off. The truck slid backwards until it fell into a 20-meter deep ravine.

Emergency responders rushed to the scene and brought the victims to the Conner District Hospital and Conner Medical Center.

Conner Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) listed the fatalities as Aberion, Amparo Ole, Asperela, Domingo Gundan, Dacuycuy, Hermalina, Dajucon, Pacita, Gundan, Mercy Pataras, Mamauag, Claro Culili, Pigaten, Milo Mamerto, Milo, Susana Ballesteros, Molina, Ludalina Talay, Molina, Rosemarie Bayaua, Pagtama, Rudy Velasco, Pamittan, Margie Agustin, Patay, Leticia Bayaua, Sabatan, Conrado Molina, Sosa, Reymundo Battad, Talay, Brenda Datul, Talay, Imelda Ole, Talay, Jayson Verdadero and still unidentified individual.

Police are still investigating the incident.
