Yorme donates P6-M to PGH

From P5 million, Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso turned over four checks totaling P6 million to the Philippine General Hospital to be used for the treatment of cancer-stricken children.

Accompanied by Vice Mayor Honey Lacuna and City Council majority floor leader Manuel Zarcal Jr., they presented the amount to PGH director Dr. Gerardo Legaspi for the pediatrics oncology ward as Domagoso has promised.

The donation came from the mayor’s talent fee from Jag Jeans (P1 million), a counterpart amount from the owner of the jeans company (P1 million), from Kenny Rogers Roasters and Seattle’s Best Coffee (P1 million each), and P2 million from sister companies of Jag Jeans.

The mayor chose the children’s cancer ward as beneficiary to fulfill a promise he made during the campaign period when he visited the ward and met with some patients.

He thanked the said companies who hired him for modeling jobs, telling them he was merely being of help to the ailing children.

“This will be a big help for the kids who are ill with a painful disease. The amount you gave me might be able to save their lives,” Domagoso said.

As to why he chose PGH as his beneficiary, he admitted the medical facility has the expertise and can offer help to this troubling disease.

Legaspi said this is the biggest donation the children’s cancer foundation has ever received and assured the mayor that it will be used directly for the beneficiaries the mayor intends.
