Bolick goes under knife

NorthPort’s campaign in the ongoing Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Governors’ Cup suffered a big blow as rookie sensation Robert Bolick was declared out of the season due to anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury.

Batang Pier team manager Bonnie Tan made the announcement on social media, adding that the former San Beda standout will be out for at least six months.

“Robert Bolick suffered a partial ACL tear (on his right knee) in his last game against San Miguel,” Tan tweeted.

“To address the ACL tear, Bolick opted to go through surgery rather than rehab to ensure full recovery. The Batang Pier team will play without him for the next six months,” he added.

The 24-year old Bolick hurt his knee at 8:06 mark of the fourth period against the Beermen and was immediately taken to St. Luke’s Medical Center at the Bonifacio Global City.

He sought a second opinion and it was confirmed that there’s a partial tear on his right knee.

It was huge blow not only for NorthPort, which fighting for a quarterfinal slot in the season-ending conference with a 3-4 mark, but also for Bolick, who along with Columbian Dyip’s CJ Perez are in a tight battle for the Rookie of the Year honor.

Bolick, who is averaging 12 points, five rebounds and six assists in the Governors’ Cup, will also be scrapped in the 3×3 pool of coach Ronnie Magsanoc for the 30th Southeast Asian Games.

Meanwhile, the PBA Commissioner’s Office fined San Miguel forward Kelly Nabong P30,000 for hitting Meralco’s Chris Newsome during their Sunday’s game.

League commissioner Willie Marcia warned Nabong a repeat of the same incident could mean suspension.
