Tugade leads Sangley dry run

The Department of Transportation (DoTr) on Tuesday held a dry run of the refurbished Sangley Airport as a cargo plane from Cebu Pacific subsidiary CebGo landed on the airport in Cavite.

No less than Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade led a tour of Sangley Airport, which government is rehabilitating to help decongest the Ninoy Aquino International Airport, the country’s main gateway in Pasay City.

In June this year, President Rodrigo Duterte ordered transportation officials to rehabilitate Sangley within five months so that it could help decongest NAIA but Sangley, however, is expected to cater mostly to smaller planes, business jets and turboprop airplanes as its runway is only 2,300 meters long.

Tugade rode a Philippine Coast Guard vessel from the CCP Complex in Pasay City to the temporary ferry terminal in Sangley for the test run and he noted that a regular ferry service will be provided for passengers of airlines that will use Sangley.

The airport’s passenger terminal has been equipped with CCTVs, Xray, baggage handling, airconditioning units, and a weighing conveyor and it can accommodate 160 people at a given time.
