Perks await Baguio nonagenarians

BAGUIO CITY — Vice Mayor Faustino Olowan announced that the city government passed a resolution to recognize and award nonagenarians via giving them benefits and perks to be enjoyed, similar to what they have been giving centenarians.

Olowan said that the Baguio nonagenarians, or those aged 90 to 99 years old, will be given a certificate of recognition, a cash award of P10,000 and will be entitled to free regular medical checkups and other services.

The Baguio City government in the past only recognized Baguio folk who are already aged 100 and up with similar benefits, but Olowan said that the nonagenarians, like centenarians, are worthy to be recognized, commended and appreciated for their years of contribution to the society and the history of Baguio.

He added that such people should be the inspiration of the people because their long lives show how they practiced discipline in reaching such age and that the people of Baguio should learn from them in the pursuit of wisdom and healthy lives.
