Robredo beds with CPP

It is ironic and bothersome for our LP Vice President to find herself in the same position as the Communist Party of the Philippines.

It often takes time for people to reveal their true colors. What is perceived as “yellow” may actually be “red.” such as the case of Vice President Leni Robredo. As highest-ranking Liberal Party (LP) official in the administration, VP Robredo has no role in the government except to criticize President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, using taxpayers’ money at that. It is obviously a waste since she brings no added value to the government we have today.

Luckily, VP Robredo still gets free passes with her allies in Congress. During the budget deliberations of the Office of the Vice President in the House of Representatives, the few remaining Liberal Party congressmen swiftly moved to approve the budget; we can expect the same from the Senate. Also in the House, VP Robredo also gets support from the leftist partylist groups, but this has not been evident in the public’s eye, though we may not need to wait too soon for this.

In her latest tirade against President Duterte’s war on drugs, VP Robredo said things we expected from her, but brought it up another notch with false swagger as if she was already off the hook from former senator Bongbong Marcos’ electoral protest against her. Guess what, she’s clearly not out of the woods yet, and her words have revealed more of her seditious intentions, now that desperation is in full throttle at the last half of this successful administration.

VP Robredo last Wednesday, in an interview with foreign news agency, Reuters, let it rip in true dilawan fashion. She said, “We ask ourselves, ‘Why is this still happening?’ The President has already made very serious threats to drug syndicates, to drug lords… and yet it’s still very prevalent. So obviously, it’s not working.” VP Robredo always egged President Duterte to give in to the investigation to be conducted by the International Criminal Court, to wit: “We have seen a lot of police that have abused their powers and not been penalized so this is where the International Criminal Court could come in, if we do not show the world that we can take care of our own mess.”

Malacañang scoffed at VP Robredo’s characterization of the drug war as a failure. Palace spokesman Salvador Panelo contradicted her statement, saying that she is “echoing the lies and black propaganda of some of her colleagues in the political opposition, which to say the least is unfortunate, especially since she was part of the Cabinet when the government’s program against the drug menace was launched,” thereby hinting bitterness on the part of VP Robredo since she was relieved from being Housing Secretary by President Duterte. What Secretary Panelo did not say was that drugs proliferated during the Aquino administration, with detained Sen. Leila de Lima as Exhibit “A.”

The Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB), one of the government units at the forefront of our fight against illegal drugs, issued a statement against the claims of VP Robredo. They said, “It seems that up until now, the Vice President is misled in understanding the anti-drug campaign. Authorities continue to address the domestic drug issues using a holistic, balanced and comprehensive approach.” The DDB added, “It appears that VP Robredo is only looking at one side of the campaign. While enforcement issues are more evident, we cannot discount the successes we have gained in the demand reduction part of the campaign.”

The biggest revelation made in light of VP Robredo’s tirade is the support it got from the Community Party of the Philippines (CCP), which, in a statement, said, “Her description of the drug war as ineffective reflects the sentiments of majority of the Filipino people who are skeptical of Duterte’s real aims but are silenced and paralyzed by the reign of terror and violence.” The CPP further said, “It has become crystal clear that Duterte’s drug war is a big hoax. Vice President Robredo correctly observes that the country is now saturated with shabu and other drugs.”

It is ironic and bothersome for our LP Vice President to find herself in the same position as the CPP. In the first place, the LP has fought off communism and has been victimized by the CPP in the past. In 1971, the New People’s Army, or the armed wing of the CPP, threw a grenade at an LP rally that led to the death of nine people. Now, VP Robredo finds herself in bed with the communists’ rebels, heightening her desperation.

But to those who say that the drug war has failed, what can you say about the death of another official (e.g., Mayor of Clarin, Misamis Occidental) who belonged to the “narco list” of President Duterte? Panelo is correct — VP Robredo is “demonizing” the drug war. And who else can demonize another? We may assume that is only the most evil entity that can delegate “demonizing” of another. Which leads us to ask, is VP Robredo therefore Satan herself?
