Porsche, Lexus debut esteemed e-vehicles

Notable carmakers recently introduced to the world their prized electric cars: Porsche, its first full-electric sports car, Taycan and Lexus, its LF-30 Electrified Concept.

With a spectacular world premiere held simultaneously in Germany, Canada and China, the Porsche Taycan comes to the fold as a four-door sports saloon offering typical Porsche performance and connectivity with everyday usability. The Taycan’s highly advanced production methods and features are now becoming the new standards in the fields of sustainability and digitalization.

The first models in the new series are the Taycan Turbo S and Taycan Turbo. They are at the cutting edge of Porsche E-Performance and are among the most powerful production models that the sports car manufacturer currently has in its product range.

The flagship Turbo S version of the Taycan can generate up to 560 kW (658hp) overboost power in combination with Launch Control and the Taycan Turbo up to 500 kW (677 hp).

The Taycan Turbo S accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 2.8 seconds, while the Taycan Turbo completes this sprint in 3.2 seconds. The Turbo S has a range of up to 412 kilometers, while the Turbo a range of up to 450 kilometers. The top speed of both all-wheel-drive models is 260 km/h.

The Taycan is the first production vehicle with a system voltage of 800 volts instead of the usual 400 volts for electric cars. This is a particular advantage for Taycan drivers on the road: in just over five minutes, the battery can be recharged using direct current from the high-power charging network for a range of up to 100 kilometers.

The charging time for five to 80 percent state of charge is 22.5 minutes for charging under ideal conditions, and the maximum charging power is 270 kW. The overall capacity of the Performance Battery Plus is 93.4 kWh. Taycan drivers can comfortably charge their cars with up to eleven kW of alternating current at home.

Meanwhile, Lexus unveiled its “Lexus Electrified” vision for an upcoming generation of electrified vehicles. Its centerpiece is the debut of the Lexus LF-30 Electrified Concept, which made its world premiere at the 46th Tokyo Motor Show. This coincides with Toyota’s grand goal of selling more than 5.5 million electric vehicles by the year 2030.

For starters, the “Lexus Electrified” vision aspires a fundamental leap in vehicle performance, handling, control and driver enjoyment — even as mobility within our society continues to change with autonomous driving and vehicle electrification.

The LF-30 Electrified concept vehicle embodies the “Lexus Electrified” vision. For its exterior styling the advanced image expected of a battery electric vehicle (BEV) has been channeled into artistic qualities that result in a futuristic form and an interior that assertively weaves in autonomous driving and other new technologies.

Highlighting its aesthetics at the onset are its gullwing doors, while measuring 5,090 mm long, 1,995 mm wide and 1,600 mm tall and tipping the scales at 2,400 kg.

Inside, the LF-30 features its Tazuna cockpit, its human-centered engineering philosophy which features gesture control and augmented reality. Interiors are made of sustainable materials, including “Yakisugi” (charred cedar) a traditional Japanese material used in the floor and steering controller while recycled metal was processed into fibers for use in creating the pleated door trim. It offers autonomous driving with advanced posture control technology being employed with its chauffer mode and guardian mode.

The LF-30 is powered by four in-wheel electric motors which provides 400kW (544hp) and 700N-m which can sprint from 0-100kph in just 3.8 seconds, while topping at a speed of 200kph. Its 110kW/h battery provides a range of 500 kms. on a single full charge.
