Security amped up for SEA Games

The Philippine National Police’s (PNP) Civil Security Group (CSG) is now fine-tuning its safety and security plans for the country’s hosting of the 30th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games slated next month.

In a recent press briefing in Camp Crame, CSG chief PMaj. Gen. Roberto Fajardo said his office will soon meet with the SEAG’s security providers to ensure all bases are covered in the biennial meet slated for 30 November to 11 December.

“Security agencies, in fact, are the third rings of the security for the SEA Games. They’re the one detailed at the game venues, hotels, restaurants, and others,” Fajardo stated.

“It’s imperative that everything is coordinated between the PNP, security agencies, the AFP (Armed Forces of the Philippines),” he added.

The PNP earlier announced that around 15,000 policemen will secure the event, where Police Regional Office 3 would be deploying around 5,000 cops while the National Capital Region Police Office would provide 10,000 policemen.

They will be detailed at the venues in Clark, Subic, Metro Manila and other parts of Luzon.

“We haven’t monitored any security threats but we have to remain alert and observant to prevent any unfortunate incident from happening,” PNP spokesperson PBgen. Bernard Banac said in an earlier interview.
