Marikina city gov’t going solar

The city government of Marikina will put more solar panels in city government buildings in an effort to reduce carbon dioxide emissions in the city.

“Tinitingnan ko ang pagpapakabit ng solar panels sa ating mga city government buildings, upang makatulong makabawas sa carbon dioxide emissions sa ating lungsod ng Marikina,” Mayor Marcelino “Marcy” Teodoro said during the inauguration event of the solar photo-voltaic system installed on the roofs of the Grade School and Senior High School buildings of Marist College, Inc.

The solar photo-voltaic rooftop system will help in the cost-effective and efficient energy consumption of the campus by converting solar energy into electrical energy. Consequently, this will reduce carbon dioxide emissions in the long run and promote a cleaner, healthier environment.

“In Marikina, cleanliness is a way of life and discipline is a culture. Sustainability is a household term for everything that the city has already done. Magandang halimbawa ito para sa mga mamamayan, kaya gagawin natin ito para sa buong sambayanan ng Marikina,” Teodoro added.

The Marikina mayor commended this valuable contribution of Marist College for providing its students venues to actively engage in the protection of our environment, and forming them as good stewards of God’s creations.

“Gusto ko pasalamatan ang Marist School sa kanilang ginawa. Salamat sa pagiging isang ehemplo. What better venue to teach the concept of sustainability, but through education in our schools. Kaya nga yata ako napunta rito para makita ang pwede nating gawin pa para sa Marikina,” Teodoro said.
