Justice Carpio retires from SC

On his 70th birthday Saturday, Senior Associate Justice Antonio Carpio has retired from the Supreme Court after 18 years of service to the judiciary and the public.

Reaching the mandatory retirement age in the judiciary, Carpio was credited for penning 935 decisions and countless opinions now forming part of the country’s jurisprudence.

Among the final rulings in which he served as ponente or author was the upholding of the validity of the grant of a minimum base pay of Salary Grade 15 for government nurses.

Carpio had also been vocal about upholding Philippine sovereignty at West Philippine Sea being contested by neighboring countries.
