2 more cops probed on Bilibid caper

The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) yesterday revealed that two more police officials will be investigated following the allegation that a total of 16 cops had tried to sneak in contraband at the New Bilibid Prison (NBP).

In a statement, NCRPO acting director PBrig. General Debold Sinas explained the two policemen supposedly directed two of the 16 cops to bring cigarettes and alcoholic drink inside the national penitentiary.

“Initially, the first one brought liquor, saying that he was asked by his senior to do it,” said Sinas. “We have already disarmed the said senior official and he is undergoing investigation.”

“The one who brought in the cigarettes, that’s a different story,” he added, noting that a total of 60 sticks of cigarettes was confiscated from the cop.

“While they have alibis, the mere fact that they have the intention to deceive warrants investigation.”

Sinas said the two police officers — who allegedly gave the orders — have ranks of police staff sergeant and police corporal. However, he did not disclose their names, stressing that the policemen had tried to sneak in the cigarettes and alcoholic drinks may face dismissal from service.

The NCRPO director also noted the two policemen already reported and gave their statements regarding the accusations against them.

Sinas further warned that the two cops who had supposedly given the order may also face dismissal from service, adding that the NCRPO is still waiting for the result of the forensic examination conducted on the confiscated cell phones.

On Wednesday, the NCRPO chief recalled the policemen providing security at the national penitentiary following the contraband issue.
