2 extorting cops arrested

The arrested policemen were said to be collecting grease money from buses, jeepneys and other public utility vehicles in all terminals within the Malibay jurisdiction.

A joint operation by several units of the Philippine National Police (PNP) on Thursday resulted in the arrest of two policemen reportedly involved in extortion activities in Pasay City.

Arrested at the entrapment operation conducted inside the Grand Transport Terminal in Malibay, Pasay were PCpl. Reynaldi Pallangeo Macwes and PCpl Jimuel Ilagan, who were said to be collecting grease money from buses, jeepneys and other public utility vehicles in all terminals within the Malibay jurisdiction, coming from intelligence reports.

The two policemen, assigned at the Pasay City Police’s PCP 7, were accosted by operatives from the PNP’s Integrity Monitoring and Enforcement Group (IMEG), Intelligence Group (IG) and the National Capital Region Police Office’s Regional Intelligence Division.

The arresting personnel swooped in on Macwes and Ilagan after receiving the P100 marked money. Also confiscated from them were their Glock and Beretta service pistols.

Prior to the operation, the IMEG and IG have been monitoring PCP 7 over a complaint that its commander, PCpt. Mark Oyad, has raised the “daily collection” to P1,000 for every trip of public vehicles coming from the terminals.

The unnamed complainant said to have protested the demand considering the fact that two policemen assigned to the said precinct, Macwes and Ilagan, were already supposedly to be getting P100 each for every trip.

Oyad allegedly was irked and threatened the complainant with an arrest, prompting the latter to seek help from higher authorities.

The arrested policemen are now under the custody of IMEG for documentation and proper disposition before appropriate criminal and administrative charges are filed against them.
