Stay indoors, DFA tells Pinoy in Chile

The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Wednesday reiterated the advisory issued by the Philippine Embassy in Santiago for Filipinos in Chile to take necessary precautions in view of a State of Emergency in the said city and in Chucabuco, Puente Alto, San Bernardo, Concepcion, Valparaiso, Iquique, Maipu, and other provinces.

“Amidst the ongoing violent protests, Filipinos are advised to stay indoors and avoid unnecessary travel to affected areas, specifically in central Santiago and areas around submetro and bus stations,” the advisory read.

The State of Emergency is said to last for 15 days.

No Filipino has been reported affected from the ongoing protests, according to Ambassador to Chile Ma. Teresita C. Daza. There are approximately 800 Filipino migrants in Chile, majority of them residing in the capital Santiago.

The DFA, through the embassy, will continue to monitor developments in Santiago, and provide advisory on the peace and security situation in Chile, when necessary.
