Fire engulfs Quiricada homes

A FIRE in Quiricada Street, Manila is being put out by responding firemen. YUMMIE DINGDING

A huge fire razed houses along Quiricada St. in Manila on Tuesday which displaced about 264 families.

Initial reports said that the blaze started on the 3rd floor of a three-storey house on Quiricada St. at the back of the Manila Bureau of Fire Protection and it immediately spread in nearby houses which were made of light materials.

Houses on the adjacent Alvarez St. were also damaged and according to Supt. Rodolfo Denaga, Manila fire marshal, the blaze which reached Task Force Bravo started around 11:50 a.m.

The blaze was placed under control at 1:36 p.m. and the estimated damage of the fire was pegged at P800,000. No fatalities from the fire were reported but a fire volunteer, identified as John Rodrigo Tapa, was injured after sustaining laceration in his left index.

Denaga said investigators are still probing the cause of fire.

Some of the affected families were temporarily sheltered at the Rizal Covered Court.
