Filipino craft beer in focus

Other Newport Mall merchants taking part in in the month-long October Fiesta festivities have created their own beer matches and beer-infused dishes.

Hot on the heels of its October Fiesta kick-off revelry that took place last 4 and 5 October at the Newport Mall, Resorts World Manila (RWM) continues to celebrate Oktoberfest with its own unique Pinoy twist.

During the initial two-day event, RWM shone the spotlight on Filipino craft beer with around 300 varieties from participating local craft brewers that included Santiago Brewery, Joe’s Brew, Boondocks, Cebruery, Crows Craft Brewing, Elias Wicked Ale & Spirits and Pedro Brewcrafters.

Among the most intriguing brews during the beer festival was the siling labuyo beer from Ibalon Craft Brew that packed a lot of heat even when taken ice cold. There were also the pink hibiscus beer from Mark and Tony; Santiago’s aptly-named Habagat amber ale dubbed as an artisanal beer; the Hanep Guyabano and Astig Mango ciders from Elias; and Monkey Eagle Brewery’s Psychedelic Blonde that boasts of “taste and flavors that are out of this world.”

Most of these brews paired well with sample servings of RWM’s Franks sports bar’s Pinoy Hotdogs that are available in Chicken Inasal, Chicken-Pork Adobo and Bistek Tagalog. Along with the bestselling Sisig Wrap, Oktoberfest revelers as well as regular guests should continue to enjoy these exclusive beer pairings at Franks at the ground floor of the Garden Wing gaming area.

These include Johnny Kahuku Hawaiian Shrimphouse’s Crispy Drunken Shrimps; Crustasia Asian Seafood Market’s Crispy Pork Knuckles; Lumu Filipino Kitchen’s Beer-battered Fried Chicken; Chiara’s Beer-flavored Sorbet and Zuppa Inglese infused with Alkermes Liquor Syrup; Shrimp Bucket’s Beer-battered Fish and Fritts; and Mr. Kurosawa’s Beer-battered Fish and Chips.

Just a stone’s throw away from the Newport Mall is Savoy Hotel Manila which is also serving its own Beer Pork Knuckles, Beer-infused Osso Bucco con Gremalota, Beer Marinated Schnitzel, Beer Pretzel and Beer & Mustard Sauerkraut.

Music fans were treated to live performances by the likes of Paolo Santos, Davey Langit, Migz Haleco, New Maincast, Julius, Hans Dimayuga, Tiara Shaye, Juno and Hello Caesar during the two-day event.

The music continues at RWM’s El Calle Food and Music Hall featuring some of the top acoustic live acts in the metro today that should complement Bolahan’s street food platter along with a wide array of beers, wines and spirits.

“October Fiesta is a unique celebration wherein good food, superb performances and various beer brews take the main spotlight at the Newport Mall,” shared RWM director for Corporate Communications Joee Guilas. “It’s our way of celebrating the German tradition with that distinct Filipino touch that makes it more homely and comfortably familiar.”
