The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported on Wednesday a magnitude-6.3 earthquake that hit North Cotabato — a tremor that was felt in nearby provinces.

According to the seismology agency, the tectonic quake occurred at 7:37 p.m. approximately 22 kilometers southeast of Tulunan town and had a depth of 15 km and Phivolcs director Renato Solidum said that no tsunami warning was raised.

The nearby city of Kidapawan, meantime, felt the tremor at Intensity 7.

“We’re receiving reports of damage but we’re still verifying but we’re relatively OK at this moment. We’re still waiting for the reports to come in,” Kidapawan Mayor Joseph Evangelista said.

Instrumental intensities were also experienced in these areas — Intensity VII in Kidapawan City, Intensity V in Tupi, South Cotabato; Alabel, Sarangani, Intensity IV in Kiamba, Sarangani; T’Boli, South Cotabato; General Santos City, Intensity III in Cagayan de Oro City; Gingoog City, Misamis Oriental, Intensity II in Cagayan de Oro, Misamis Oriental and Intensity I in Dipolog and Bislig.
