Mandaluyong Arena soon to rise

Mandaluyong City will soon hosts sporting events like professional basketball and volleyball league and even cultural events, once the construction of its big arena is completed.

Mandaluyong public information chief Jimmy Isidro disclosed that the city government will construct a 10-storey arena that will house the gymnasium, auditorium, as well as the cultural.

‘This is huge. The seating capacity of the gymnasium is 5,000 while the auditorium is around 1,500,” Isidro told this reporter in an interview.

The P2.4-billion multi-purpose arena will be constructed on a 5,500 square meters lot at the old city hall building just infront of the city hall building, Isidro said.

He said the demolition of the old building will start by next month and the construction will probably begin by early next year.

“Hopefully by next year we can start the construction. It takes time because we have to look for new places of the offices that have been displaced by the demolition,” Isidro explained.

The city public information chief claimed that the arena will be the tallest building in Mandaluyong.

“That would be the tallest structure in this area of Mandaluyong,” he said.

Isidro also said that the first 3 floors of the arena will be provided for parking spaces.

“As we all know, parking is one of the problems here in Mandaluyong. This structure is a solution to a parking problem here at the city hall and around its vicinity because it has provision of 3,000 parking slots,” he explained.

“It’s a one-stop shop indeed. What is most important for us is that we now have a theatre that we can use for our cultural events, and at the same time we can also preserve our cultural heritage in this area,” the city public information chief added.
