New building within Batasan proposed

A House leader is pushing for the construction of a new building within the Batasan Pambansa Complex that would house desk offices and the legislative liaison officers from all government agencies.

Deputy Speaker and Ilocos Sur 1st District Rep. Deogracias Savellano, in House Resolution 348, said part of congressmen’s work is to coordinate with different government offices in aid of legislation and to ensure that government services reach their respective constituents.

According to Savellano, the creation of a new building at the Batasan for government agencies will save the time of lawmakers for travel.

“In as much as several of the government offices are found outside of Quezon City, there is a need to put a desk of every government office as far as practicable within the grounds of the Batasan Pambansa Complex for House of representatives to save time and travel so as to implement effectively its duties, a sort of one stop center.”

“Now therefore be it resolved as it is hereby resolved that the House of Representatives construct a separate building from the main building of the House of Representatives within the Batasan Pambansa Complex that would house desk offices and the legislative liaison officers from all government agencies.

Savellano’s resolution was referred to the House Committee on Accounts chaired by Cavite 8th District Rep. Abraham Tolentino last 20 September.
