Cebu socialized housing pushed

Galicia promised the project will be with commercial center development like a Township-type.

The Province of Cebu and the Housing and Land Use Regulatory Board (HLURB) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) this week to develop a 17-hectare property located in Barangay Busay, Cebu City that will be the socialized housing project for Capitol employees and later on open to other government workers.

Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia signed the MOU with HLURB Commissioner Atty. Melzar Galicia that HLURB will come up with an exclusive-village or township type but low-cost housing in the mountain barangay province-owned property.

“This is a big help to our employees who want to own a home at a low cost so this has to be started immediately or before the year ends,” Garcia told Galicia.

Galicia promised the project will be with commercial center development like a township-type.

“That will make it more convenient for homeowners to shop for food and goods at the vicinity. This will save their time from traffic woes,” the governor added.

The MoU said that HLURB will be tasked to handle the project, according to housing development laws and will designate the housing developer to undertake it.

Sixth District Provincial Board Member Glenn Soco in a separate interview, said that this will be at no cost to the provincial government but the 17 hectare property will be its counterpart.

Soco, who chairs the committee on Budget and Appropriations, said HLURB still have to come up with the budgetary requirements for the project.
