NorthPort snapped its four-game skid after taking down Phoenix, 80-70, in the 2019 Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Governors’ Cup last night at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Mo Tautuaa stepped up for the Batang Pier scoring 16 points and grabbing nine rebounds while Paolo Taha and import Mychal Ammons chipped in 14 and 12 markers, respectively.

“In terms of averages we’re 0-5 against Phoenix. We haven’t win a game against them since last season. So it’s about time that we get this win and at the same time have some confidence back to the players,” NorthPort head coach Pido Jarencio said.

“I told them yesterday, let’s regroup, let’s refocus, let’s fix our goals and mindset. Let’s take it one game at a time,” he added.

The Fuel Masters threatened at 68-74 but a 6-0 run anchored on Tautuaa fend off the rally of Phoenix.

Alex Mallari led Phoenix with 15 points and six rebounds while teammates Eugene Phelps added 14 points, 14 rebounds and eight assists and Jason Perkins contributed 10 points and 10 boards.
