Manila reopens Isetann mall

The Manila City government on Friday, October 11, lifted the closure order of Isetann Department Store and Supermarket in Recto Avenue after its management secured the appropriate permits needed to operate the shopping mall.

Manila Bureau of Permits chief Levi Facundo recommended the lifting of the closure order personally served by Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso on Wednesday.

Domagoso approved the lift order through Bernardito Ang, his secretary.

“Upon coordination with this Office and submission of requirements, this is to confirm that you have substantially complied with the deficiencies/violatons noted in the Closure Order in relation to the operation of your business,” the lift order stated.

“In view thereof, the Closure Order dated 9 October 2019 is hereby lifted,” it said.

The city government, however, warned Isetann Recto’s management that “any future similar violation or any other violation of the terms and conditions of the business permit may lead to another suspension of operation or revocation of its permit.

Isetann Recto’s operator secured the required permits to lease space and operate all of its cinemas. It has also correctly declared its occupied space and number of employees.

The mall operator paid all of its tax deficiencies amounting to P2 million after availing of the city government’s tax amnesty program. Its original tax liability to the city was P4 million.

The mall’s operator also promised the city government that it will strictly implement the anti-fencing law after Domagoso learned that tenants of the mall were selling secondhand phones, including stolen ones.

“In keeping with the instructions of the City Mayor, the sale of secondhand phones will no longer be allowed here at the Isetann Cinerama Complex,” the mall operator also said in a letter to Domagoso.
