IED blast rocks NBP

Police have confirmed an explosion inside quadrant 4, east sector of the maximun security compound of the New Bilibid Prison.

An initial report to P/Maj. Gen. Guillermo Eleazar said that at around 10 this morning, 11 October, while a demolition is ongoing at quadrant 1, an explosion occured at quadrant 4.

Immediately thereafter the explosives and K9 teams of the National Capital Region Police Office responded to check the area.

It was disclosed that the cause of the explosion was an improvised explosive device (IED). Hence, the EOD team conducted thorough search within the area for possible secondary explosive devices using explosive detection dogs.

During the paneling, two hand grenades and two blasting caps were recovered inside the shanties (kubol) adjacent to the explosion site.

Initial investigation showed that the IED explosion site was occupied by violent extremist offenders (ASG, Maute, ISIS and Rajah Solaiman Group among others.
