TNT wants solid defense

TNT KaTropa tries to sustain its unbeaten start and keep hold of the lead as it battles NorthPort in the opening game of Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Governors’ Cup today at the Cuneta Astrodome in Pasay City.

The KaTropa, holding a league-leading 4-0 mark, face Batang Pier at 4:30 p.m. to be followed by the tussle between Rain or Shine and Phoenix at 7 p.m.

TNT again showed its mighty offense in its previous game, outlasting Columbian Dyip, 125-120, behind a balanced attack.

Import KJ McDaniels again displayed his all-around skills with 29 points, 17 rebounds and six assists and had plenty of help from the locals.

Roger Pogoy finished with 27 points, Jayson Castro had 25 markers while Don Trollano contributed 19 points against the Dyip.

But KaTropa head coach Bong Ravena wants to have a better showing defensively.

“We are happy with the win, but our concern is our defense. We barely survived. In our future games we can’t play like this. We have tougher teams coming,” Ravena said.

“We have to make stops. We can score anytime but we have to make stops. Offensively, we are there, anybody can score. But, of course, we also need to stop the opponent. That’s our goal to be known for our defense. It’s a long shot but we really need to improve our defense.”
