Elite cop 1st win

Blackwater finally broke into the win column following a 107-98 win over Northport in the Philippine Basketball Association Governors’ Cup last night at the Ynares Center in Antipolo City.

Ray Parks led the attack while Marqus Blakely had an impressive all-around performance for the Elite, who notched their first win in three games.

Parks delivered 21 points, four rebounds and two steals while Blakely had 13 points, 14 rebounds, seven assists and eight blocks for Blackwater, which also drew an impressive performance from Carl Bryan Cruz, Roi Sumang and Mike DiGregorio.

Cruz had 16 points while Sumang and DiGregorio added 14 markers apiece.

“I commend the guys for playing hard the entire game. They played well right from the get go and finished strong and smart,” Blackwater coach Aris Dimaunahan said.

“We’ll build on this. I just commend the boys for their concentration in facing the challenge. I thought our team played better tonight.”

“The challenge was to win the rebounding department, to lessen our turnovers and increase our assists.”

Import Mychal Ammons finished with 29 points and 17 rebounds while Robert Bolick added 14 markers, nine rebounds and 12 assists for Northport, which is on a three-game slump after winning their opening-day encounter.
